Arts Bombast: Marc H. Miller

In this amazing series of photographs, artist and “punk curator” Marc H. Miller captures his friend and co-curator Bettie Ringma hanging out with legendary bands from the CBGB scene. Talking Heads, the Voidoids, Patti Smith, the Ramones, and some less know but just as awesome folks like Anya Philips are all here. The series is entitled, “Bettie Visits CBGB.”

There’s something bizarre and out-of-context about seeing the same random women represented again and again, alongside faces from bands that I have looked at HUNDREDS of times. It somehow makes the musicians more human, less legend, which, you know, is a good thing. At least for ’70s-music-nerds-who-weren’t-actually-around-in-the-’70s like myself. I feel like the project is made so much better by what it does for audiences TODAY rather than at the actual time. I can also imagine someone looking at these in 100 years and wondering, “Who the fuck is that woman?”

More amazingness from Miller here.
