O HAAY, San Francisco. This weekend is one our beloved city’s most significant, majestic, and celebratory events: SF PRIDE.
With the federal government overturning DOMA on Wednesday, I have a feeling it’s gonna be a good one. In the spirit of Pride, these things:
[Girls at the Bar, 1946, by Weegee.]
[Keith Haring and Juan Dubose, 1983, by Andy Warhol.]
[There’s a Dyke in the Pit– 1992 Punk Compilation via Outpunk Records. Listen to the whole 7″ here.]
[Artist David Wojnarowicz‘ jacket at ACT UP rally in New York, 1988.]
[One of my favorite drag moments in TV history: David Duchovny on Twin Peaks.]
[1970, photographer and location unknown.]
[Currently reading: Stone Butch Blues by Leslie Feinberg.]
A few of my Instagram shots from the Castro on Wednesday night. We (and the rest of SF) took to the streets to celebrate!
[EEEEE Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.]
Finally, on Saturday night (that’s June 29!) I’ll be DJ-ing a Pride-themed punk radio show over on Ribbon Around a Bomb at Radio Valencia. Queercore galore, plus our normal offering of kick-ass female-fronted punk. Tune in Saturday night from 10pm-midnight at radiovalencia.fm.
More Pride-y things of interest:
SF’s Screaming Queens of Compton’s.
Joe Brainard- I Remember and pop art.
Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.
Androgynous women.
The Life and Times of Samuel Steward.
I didn’t recognize Duchovny at first. I completely forgot about that episode.
