Lorna Simpson is not a nonchalent photographer. She creates very intentional, carefully crafted photographic works, usually with still details of the body and associated words. The stark images and words interact with one another differently for each viewer, but certainly, her work (like all good things in life) explores some very dark themes. Racism, sexism, vulnerability, isolation… eat it up, guys.
[Backdrops circa 1940s, 1998.]
Lorna lives and works in Brooklyn, and you can find more of her work here.
This blog has definitely inspired me to become more interested in photography. I am already a big fan of Man Ray now, and I think I’m becoming a fan of Lorna Simpson now too.
