Arts Bombast: John Schabel

Photographer John Schabel is creepy. (Which you know I’m into.) His grainy snaps of people in planes, waiting for take-off, is voyeurism at its best. The series, aptly titled Passengers reveals just how alienated we all are when traveling. When I first saw these photos, I thought they were taken in the ’70s, but this actually makes a lot of sense. These are expressions of 21st century impatient, iPhone-addicted sad-sacks, for sure. I was actually on a plane a couple days ago, and you know what? I was one of those pathetic cyborgs.

I love how the windows frame the passengers’ faces, so they’re actually portraits even though they’re candid. Twin Palms recently released a book of Schabel’s Passengers series, which you can purchase for yourself right here.

    Both creepy and facinating.

Wow, love these photos. It’s like they’re trapped.

This has to be one of the best art blogs on the internet. πŸ˜€

Right? I feel slightly creeped out by but also in love with the idea that someone could be taking my photo when I LEAST expect it. Possibly right now. WTFFF.
