Ribbon Around A Bomb

Femme Avant-core

RAB Radio #20: Refusing to Be a Man

Every Saturday night, I DJ a radio show of all female-fronted punk, post-punk, no wave, garage rock… that kind of thing. In this installment of Ribbon Around a Bomb Radio, I actually played a song by an all-male band for the first time EVER. But at least it contained some pretty radical lyrics about “patricentricity” and the fact that, “there’s a difference between sexism and sexuality.” Experiment: successful, I’d say. The podcast can be streamed or downloaded HERE, or the playlist is below.

I’m friends with a guy who’s very feminist and stuff…he plays music and is into activism and that sort of thing, so he’s probably done some songs with feminist lyrics.

You should check out Scrawl (80’s 3 piece band). Their 1st two albums are my favorite.
